History of Patience Pack
Version 9.0
This is an update to the Java version to allow running directly
rather than requiring a Windows BAT file or a Unix shell script.
Version 8.0
This was the first version of Patience Pack that was written
in using Microsoft.NET 1.1. This version still contains 120
games, but with some improvements to the graphics.
Version 7.0
This version adds thumbnails to the games list and adds two
new game categories. It also takes the number of games up
to 120 games.
Version 6.5
This was the first version of Patience Pack that could run
as a standalone Java Application as well as running as an
Applet within a web browser. It also took the number of
games up to 100 games.
Versions 6.2, 6.3 and 6.4
These versions added more games taking them up to
70 games (version 6.2), 85 games (version 6.3)
and 90 games (version 6.4). These also started to include
some puzzle type games (using dice "cubes") as well as just
card and dice games.
Version 6.1
This was the first version of Patience Pack that was written
in Java instead of Visual Basic. It was only capable of
running as a fixed size Java Applet. This version still
only contained 60 games.
Version 6.0
This is the last Visual Basic version of Patience Pack.
It added more games taking it up to 60 different games,
including 6 dice games.
Versions 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0
These versions added more games taking them up to
20 card games (version 3.0), 30 card games (version 4.0)
and 48 card games (version 5.0).
Version 2.0
Limitations in the "DLL" were soon hit, so the next version of
Patience Pack (version 2.0) was written using direct Windows calls
and contained 12 different card games.
Version 1.0
The first version of Patience Pack (version 1.0) was written in 1992,
inspired by a freely available "DLL" that made writing card games
in Visual Basic easier. This version contained just 6 different
card games.
